Reporting, privacy & evidence
The Texas Islamophobia Tracker is an editorial reporting project of Texas Muslim, edited by Omar Afra. It records accounts of perceived anti-Muslim incidents and distinguishes those accounts from independently supported evidence and official findings.
What becomes public
Submitting an account does not publish it. The raw account, contact details, consent choices and supplied links stay in a private editorial queue. An editor prepares a separate, anonymized account. We require explicit permission to publish a reader’s account and remove identifying details before publication.
Public records describe a city or county, not an exact incident location. County boundaries come from U.S. Census cartographic data distributed through us-atlas. No map pin claims the location of an incident.
Evidence status
- Submitted account
- An account supplied to Texas Muslim. It has not been independently established.
- Independently corroborated
- Independent evidence supports the published account. This is not a legal finding.
- Official finding
- A linked decision by a court or responsible public body supports the stated finding.
Case progress is separate: “Awaiting response,” “Response added” and “Resolved” describe developments, not whether a legal claim has been established. Resolution does not by itself establish wrongdoing.
Protecting your privacy
No account or login is required to submit. Contact is optional and private. Permission to contact you and permission to publish are separate, unchecked choices. Please do not include home addresses, precise GPS locations, children’s names, immigration information, voter ID numbers, ballot photos or vote choices. There are no file uploads at launch. Draft text stays in memory and is lost when you close or reload the page.
Editors may retain submissions to evaluate reporting and corrections. Please use the corrections page to request a correction or discuss removal, identifying the public case or your receipt without reposting sensitive details.
Sources, updates and corrections
Editors select public source links separately from submitted links and record updates in a dated timeline. Independently corroborated records require documented support; official findings require a linked decision. Unpublished records disappear from public lists and case pages. Reporting here does not contact assistance providers or begin a legal case. We do not promise a response time.
