Texas and federal law govern in Texas courts. Private arbitration agreements may resolve some disputes, including disputes informed by religious principles, but they do not supersede state or federal law or remove judicial review required by law.

Political rhetoric around HB 4211 often used the phrase “Sharia compounds.” The enrolled statute itself regulates specified residential arrangements owned through certain business entities.
