The Texas Muslim Almanac is a reference desk for questions that need more than an approximate number. It separates population estimates from congregation counts, distinguishes a research survey from a changing directory, and makes the source and reference period visible. Start with the question you are trying to answer, then use the relevant guide rather than treating every figure as interchangeable.

Read the categories before the headline total
A population estimate describes people under a stated method. A congregation count describes organizations or worship communities. A directory total describes records included by that directory. A school, clinic and mosque sharing a property may be three useful service records without being three mosques. Those distinctions make a reference more useful, not less decisive.
The 2020 ARDA Texas report and the U.S. Mosque Survey are now included alongside TSHA and the later legislative texts. Their differences are retained rather than silently reconciled. The population comparison and mosque comparison provide the figures and original sources in one place.
For geography, use the Atlas. For a facility, use the mosque and association directory, schools, campus resources or funeral and cemetery guide. The Almanac explains what can be measured; those resources identify places and services. A statewide estimate is not a substitute for an institution’s current contact information.
Reuse the work without losing its meaning
Keep a figure’s source, reference period and unit beside it when quoting or charting it. The downloadable source ledger is a compact research aid containing selected observations and their qualifications. It is not a new census or a complete reproduction of the underlying datasets. The narrative guides explain the comparison and any calculations.
This edition uses public sources checked on September 22, 2026. A current retrieval date does not make an older statistic current. Where evidence is missing, the page identifies the particular gap rather than inventing an estimate. Corrections should include the affected record and an official or otherwise verifiable source through the corrections page.
