New Muslim Texas
New Muslims in Houston
The ISGH New Muslims Class, who runs it with them, and the wider Houston institutions behind it.
Published · Programs checked 2026-09-22
Houston has the most structured single entry point for new Muslims in Texas: one free class, run over a fixed term, coordinated across several of the city’s organisations at once. For someone who has just taken Shahada or is still deciding, that means one room to walk into rather than a search.
ISGH New Muslims Class and New Muslims Circle
The Islamic Society of Greater Houston publishes a free fifteen-week New Muslims Class. The session listed on its page runs Saturdays from 10 AM to 12 PM, beginning August 29, 2026, at the River Oaks Islamic Center — the ISGH Main Center, 3110 Eastside St, Houston, TX 77098. A handbook and lunch are provided, and the class is taught by Rehan M. Safiullah. [1]
The program is coordinated by the New Muslims Circle together with ISGH, IAMC, MISG, the University of Houston MSA and the Rice MSA — which means a student who starts at the class also meets people from the campus organisations. Participants outside Houston can attend virtually over Zoom after registering. [1]
- Register through the ISGH page before the session you want to attend.
- Ask when you register whether you need the Zoom link or a seat in the room.
- If the term has already started, ask whether the circle can pair you with someone until the next one begins.
Schedule details above are the Fall 2026 session as published by ISGH and checked on 2026-09-22. Terms change; confirm on the official page before you travel.
Beyond the class
The city’s institutional history and its campus organisations are covered on the Houston page of the Texas Muslim Atlas, and the mosque and association directory lists individual centers with addresses and official links. For a first prayer, the prayer times page carries today’s calculated Houston times, and the mosque you attend will have its own iqamah.
If the Saturday class does not fit your work schedule, it is reasonable to call a nearby ISGH center directly and ask who handles new Muslims there. The network is large and staff answer this question often.
Houston programs
Every listing below comes from the organisation’s own public page, checked 2026-09-22. Nothing here is rated or ranked, and a program missing from this list is missing because nothing official was found — not because it is worse.
