Muslim Rio Grande Valley: McAllen and Edinburg resources

The Islamic Society of South Texas in McAllen and Alkhair Islamic Society of RGV in Edinburg describe prayer, education and community gatherings as parts of their work. This guide starts with those two institutions and their own published records. It is a way into local resources, not a claim that two listings represent the whole Valley. [1] [3]
McAllen: Islamic Society of South Texas
The Islamic Society of South Texas describes a center with a mosque and a multipurpose hall, used for prayers, community dinners, iftars and other gatherings. Its stated aims also include youth activities and friendly relations between Muslims and non-Muslims. The organization’s contact page identifies the mosque as Masjid Umar Al-Farooq. [1] [2]

Edinburg: Alkhair Islamic Society of RGV
Alkhair’s operator-hosted page gives a separate address: 1910 Elsham Avenue, Edinburg, Texas 78539. It lists 956-682-8278 and khairrgv@gmail.com as contacts. The organization dates its establishment to 2005 and describes religious, educational and community activities. [3]
Its surviving event calendar records Ramadan potlucks, Qur’an classes and sports activities in May and June 2018. Those entries show the kinds of gatherings the organization advertised at that time. They are historical records, not a current Ramadan timetable. [3]
Before a visit
Confirm the service, location and date with the relevant center, particularly for Friday prayer, a class or a seasonal event. Ask about visitor arrangements and any access requirements that matter to your visit. The two organizations have different names, addresses and contacts; a general reference to a Valley mosque should not erase that distinction.

Before you quote a population figure
The U.S. decennial census does not ask residents their religion. Available estimates and institution lists use different methods and reference years: a 2010 reference estimate, a figure recited in a proposed 2025 resolution, and directories that each count something different.
