SMU’s official Muslim Life page documents a campus Muslim community supported by an assistant chaplain, student programming and prayer facilities. The university identifies Dr. Bilal Sert as assistant chaplain for Muslim Life. Its account of the community should not be read as a statewide population measure. [1]

Prayer and ablution spaces

SMU lists a dedicated Muslim prayer room on the second floor of Hughes-Trigg Student Center, near the wellbeing office, with two ablution rooms nearby. During the academic year, its published Friday Jumu’ah schedule is 2 p.m. in Room 220BC. Confirm the room and service before attending. The university separately identifies multireligious spaces at Kathy Crow Commons, Moody Hall and Cox School of Business; those should not all be labeled dedicated Muslim rooms. [1]

The university’s spaces page says Kathy Crow Commons’ prayer and meditation room is for on-campus residents and describes a QR-code access request. A listed space therefore does not establish identical access for every visitor. Use the official facilities information for the building you intend to use. [2]

Religious observances and student life

SMU’s published student observance guidance asks students to notify professors in writing at the beginning of the semester and discuss arrangements for missed work. The chaplain office recommends notice during the first two weeks. These are SMU’s procedures, distinct from the Texas public-college statute discussed in our college holy-day guide. [2]

The Muslim Life page connects readers with the MSA and describes activities including Ramadan meals and Islamic holiday programming. Its published dining information identifies halal options, but does not establish independent certification of every menu item or promise a particular meal will always be available. Ask dining staff about the item, preparation and current service before relying on it. [1]

The Dallas–Fort Worth atlas provides community context beyond campus. The UTA prayer-room guide shows why a room listing’s date and source matter when facilities change.

Paying for college

SMU’s financial-aid FAQ distinguishes FAFSA from the CSS Profile used for institutional need-based consideration. Ask Student Financial Services which requirements apply to the student and entry year, and investigate outside awards alongside university aid.
