Muslim prayer and chaplain care at the Houston VA
The VA lists Friday Muslim prayer, a shared interfaith chapel and remote spiritual care for veterans and families.

The Houston VA publishes a Muslim Friday service within its broader chaplain program. At the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, the listed schedule includes Friday Zuhr/Jumma at 2 p.m. The shared interfaith chapel is on the second floor, near the main elevators by the balcony, and the page lists chapel availability around the clock. Confirm the service and access arrangements with the VA before traveling. [1]
Contact the chaplain service
The published chaplain-service telephone number is 713-794-7125, with weekday contact hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central. The VA also says chaplains are available for crisis ministry around the clock. Office contact hours and chapel access are separate details; neither proves a Muslim chaplain is on duty at a particular time. [1]
A veteran or family member can explain the desired support directly: attending the listed service, arranging a visit, obtaining a religious text, or connecting with a leader of a particular faith. Ask how the request should be routed for the patient’s situation. The VA’s general service listing does not guarantee the availability of a named imam.
If travel is difficult
Houston VA describes TeleChaplaincy as spiritual care through video consultations using VA Video Connect. The program is intended to help veterans and families when distance, disability or transportation makes an in-person visit difficult. Its described services include prayer, grief and bereavement support, and help connecting with faith leaders when requested. Use the chaplain service to ask how to arrange a consultation. [1]
Before the appointment, it may help to write down the concerns you want to discuss and whether another family member should join. Ask the VA about the practical setup and any arrangements needed for religious rites that cannot be provided over video. These are planning suggestions, rather than additional eligibility rules.
A shared chapel with a specific service
This record distinguishes the building from its programming. The chapel is interfaith; the Muslim Friday service is one documented use of that space. A schedule is not a census of Muslim veterans, and the published roster should not be turned into a claim that a Muslim chaplain is always present.
The Houston hospital prayer guide covers two Methodist campuses, while the Houston atlas connects readers with community institutions. For a veteran receiving care elsewhere, start with that VA facility’s own chaplain service rather than assuming the Houston room or schedule applies.
